Naruto Shippuden (a.k.a. Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles ) takes place two-and-a-half years after Naruto leaves to train with Jiraiya. Upon his return, Naruto finds out that everyone in his age group has surpassed him in rank, and he's fallen behind. With only six months left to rescue Sasuke, however, Naruto must face even more dangerous enemies. As Akatsuki's plan unfolds, and Naruto slowly loses himself to the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, it becomes clear that more dangers await Naruto than ever before.
During the Chūnin Exams, Team 7 is ambushed by a ninja with snake-like abilities. Sasuke offers the scroll, but Naruto snatches it away, accusing Sasuke of being a coward and arguing that there's no guarantee the ninja will let them live. Orochimaru summons a snake and attacks Naruto, who draws on the Nine-Tails's chakra to defend himself and Sasuke. Sasuke, angered by Naruto's taunts, helps him fight Orochimaru.
A younger Naruto paints the villagers houses and runs away, while hearing them complain that there's no one to pay for the damages because Naruto has no parents. Later, when the Third Hokage comes to his house to give him his allowance Naruto asks him about his late parents which The Hokage refuses to answer. A few years later, while in the Academy, Naruto meets Sasuke Uchiha and is continuously defeated by him.
Naruto takes his top secret S-rank mission as an animal surveyor, which he didn't know that the mission is a fake in order for him not to know the upcoming war. Meanwhile at the Akatsuki hideout, Kabuto insists to Tobi that he will go to the island and will capture Naruto. He also includes capturing Yamato for his further experiments. Tobi, Kabuto, and Zetsu enter a special room where the Gedo Statue rests on a top of a flower and beneath on its stem lies a clone of Hashirama Senju's body. Beneath further from their feet is an army of 100,000 Zetsus ready to be deployed against the Allied Shinobi Forces.
