Ichigo Kurosaki, along with his family, runs a local clinic. Ichigo has the unusual ability to see poltergeists but rather than react with surprise he merely sees it as an annoyance. Ichigo helps those when he cares but can't bring himself to care enough... until one fateful day. A small, mysterious woman appears on duty inside his room, a Soul Reaper known as Rukia. Soon enough Ichigo and Rukia get formal in the oddest of ways and in such untimely matter the losses begin. The Kurosaki family is soon attacked. This leads Ichigo on his first step to accepting the role and responsibility's a Soul Reaper must uphold.
In a flashback, Apacci, as a Hollow, runs away from another Hollow but it eventually catches up to her. Apacci fires off a Bala at the Hollows head but it does no visible damage to him. The Hollow tells Apacci that she has nowhere to run and that he's going to devour her.
Starrk, after stepping on top of a building, is stabbed from behind by a sword that comes out of his own shadow. The sword then heads back into the shadows, and Starrk wonders what happened. Shunsui suddenly reveals himself from the shadows, and Lilynette asks Starrk if he's all right.
Love tells Rose to get out of some rubble, informing him that Hachi was able to defeat Baraggan. However, he takes too long getting out so Love digs his hand threw the rubble and pulls Rose out by his hair. Rose gets mad at Love, claiming that there's an art of getting out of the rubble, but Love tells him that he should make it an art not to get stuck in the rubble in the first place.
In a small flashback, Aizen and the top three Espada are shown sitting inside Las Noches, planning to invade Karakura Town and create the Ōken. Back in the present, Baraggan is enveloped by Suì-Fēng's Bankai and is presumed defeated, but then shocks his opponents by emerging alive, yet not unscathed, from Hacchi's barrier.
Mashiro Kuna defeats Fūrā while Gin Ichimaru reamarks that he feels sorry for Wonderweiss Margela, since Fūrā was his favorite. Then she kicks Wonderweiss with her Mashiro Drop Kick. Wonderweiss tries to shoot her with a Cero, but she kicks him in the face faster than he could shoot his Cero at her, and she screams "Victory!".
