American Dad is a satirical animated cartoon series from the creator of Family Guy. It follows the events of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent Stan Smith and his family. He is married to Francine Smith, a fairly ditzy housewife who is trying to make up for a wild youth. Their two children are Hayley Smith, a passionately left-wing college-aged activist, and Steve, an awkward teenage nerd. The Smith family is also in possession of two bizarre nonhumans — Roger, an escaped alien from Area 51 who Stan is covertly housing in defiance of his employer, and Klaus, a goldfish whom the CIA implanted with the brain of an East German Olympic skier.
Klaus’ human body is located and placed in a freezer at the CIA. When Klaus finds out, he begs Stan to put him back in it, but when Stan refuses, Klaus swaps bodies with him. Meanwhile, Roger turns the attic into a gym, and tries to pressure Steve into a long-term membership.
Roger travels to his home planet, where Jeff is being held captive. To get back home, Jeff has to prove to Emperor Zing (guest voice Michael McKean) that he has always loved Hayley.
CIA Internal Affairs tells Stan that Deputy Director Bullock is showing early signs of dementia and must have his memory erased. Meanwhile, Steve runs into a bully at school, so Roger hires an old friend Stelio Kontos to take care of the problem.
After a failed CIA raid at a restaurant where Osama bin Laden is working, Stan loses his memory, which Francine takes full advantage of for him to become the perfect husband. Meanwhile, Roger joins Steve’s paper route, but he gets involved in the seedy side of the business.
Unsatisfied with missionary sex, Francine finds out she has a spanking fetish when Stan tries to punish Steve. Meanwhile, Hayley tries to leave Jeff behind again and goes on a dinner date with Snot.
