Zak Saturday and his parents, Doc and Drew are a family of world-saving scientists called "The Secret Saturdays." Living in a hidden base, they are part of a secret organization of scientists known as The Secret Scientists who protect mankind against the hidden and terrifying things of the world. In the series, folktales are actual mysteries that the Saturday family must solve. Traveling all over the world, the Saturdays explore ancient temples and bottomless caves, and battle with villains which includes the evil V.V. Argost, and a masked mercenary, who specializes in the capture of cryptids, named Van Rook. Scouring the globe in search of cryptids, the Saturdays attempt to keep the existence of these unusual beasts secret, to protect both mankind and the creatures themselves.
Upon arriving in Antarctica, Argost releases Kur from beneath the ice. The Saturdays battle against Kur, giving Argost the opportunity to sneak inside its body and control it from within. Zak follows Argost inside, pitting his powers against Kur's might. After some struggle, Zak manages to overcome Kur, knocking it unconscious. The cryptids formerly under Argost's control turn on him, forcing Munya to carry him to safety. Outside of Kur, Doyle uses the Kur-sensing artifact to solidify the point that what they defeated really is Kur. However, once Zak is expelled from Kur's body, they realize that it is actually sensing Zak's presence.
The hunt for Kur comes to a head as everyone works out their own way to locate the creature. The Saturdays call on the para-neurologist Dr. Bara to find the motivation behind Fiskerton's instinctual behavior, V.V. Argost sends a neural parasite to the Saturdays' home to extract Kur's location from Fiskerton by force, and Doyle fixes the Kur-sensing artifact. When Argost's parasite attaches to Fiskerton, his brain takes control of Bara's equipment and builds several "Fisk-bots" which destroy the Saturdays' home, using the wreckage to build a divining rod. Once Zak removes the parasite, Fiskerton reveals that Kur can be found in Antarctica.
Zak and Doyle head to a remote town to do some training on deception. While they are they, they encounter a cursed lake that begins attacking them.
Fiskerton is apparently responsible for several attacks on Secret Scientists, so Zak and the family cryptids go on a quest to clear their names. They are lead to Paris by Zak and Komodo Monday, who need Zak to retrieve their airship from the antimatter universe, now accessible through the repaired smoke mirror. With it, they can cause havoc on a global scale. Zak steals the airship as asked, but drains the power before bringing it back. Thus, when Zak and Komodo Monday try to take off with it, it falls out of the sky and back into the mirror, trapping the Mondays in their own dimension once more.
V.V. Argost steals Naga's Kur-detecting relic. Angered, she threatens to pull the Atlas Pin — a giant rock which holds the tectonic plates together — unless the Saturdays recover it for her. The Saturdays split into two teams: Doyle, Zon, Doc, and Fiskerton search for Argost while Zak, Drew, and Komodo search for Naga. Drew's group makes their way to Kumari Kandam, where they are attacked by the city's serpent, now under Naga's control. They manage to subdue the serpent and find Naga, who pulls the Atlas Pin in retaliation.
